The Growth of the Republic-The Roman Army and Roman Diplomacy
The Roman Republic expanded for several reasons. Unlike many other civilizations Rome had a fierce army. The military conquered it opponents or force them to become allies. Their success was a result of the loyal soldiers and required participation in the army. They also used advanced military tactics such as the evolved use of phalanx warfare. After many conquest Rome had had grown to enough to rule the entire Italian Peninsula.
They also conquered Greece in order to enlarge the republic. From Greece they adapted a way to use diplomacy. The Romans allowed partial self-government of conquered areas because of treaties. Envoys were sent to convey the messages to the people. Law was then used to create order and strengthen the republic. Both the use of military and use of diplomacy allowed Rome to grow into a memorial republic.
